Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book training?
To enquire about availability, please with your requirements. Upon agreeing a date, we will send you an enrolment form - return this with full payment and proof of your waxing qualification to secure your booking. We currently accept payment by cash, BACS transfer or cheque, made payable to Axiom Bodyworks.
What is non-strip wax?
You may have heard it referred to as hard wax, peelable wax, film wax or hot wax. Traditional hot wax is applied in a thick layer or built up over several layers, usually in a fiddly figure-of-eight pattern to ensure a thorough coating of all hairs. It is left to cool and harden on the skin and is then removed by hand, taking the hair with it.
New generation non-strip waxes share the unique 'shrinkwrapping' properties of older hot waxes but are lower in temperature, easier to apply and stay flexible as they cool. This makes them much more comfortable for the client and an ideal choice for removing short, coarse and stubborn hairs anywhere on the body. Due to their gentle nature, Perron Rigot non-strip waxes are used by Axiom Bodyworks for all facial and Brazilian waxing.
I've never used non-strip wax before, is that a problem?
Our courses are open to all qualified hair removal technicians, regardless of your preferred technique (strip wax, hot wax or sugaring). An introduction to Perron Rigot non-strip waxes and accessories will be provided as part of your training. Specialist workshops are also available for those who want to learn more about non-strip waxing, please email us for details.
What are the minimum/maximum number of students?
For all in-house training, we require a minimum of 1 delegate and suggest a maximum of 4. All students are required to demonstrate competency in their practical skills on the day of training, so please ensure you have sufficient space and model numbers to allow for this. Group workshops can be arranged for larger numbers, please for information.
Do I need to provide anything?
You will need to provide various waxing supplies and your own models for the full duration of training - see individual course details for exact requirements. Perron Rigot non-strip hard wax and depilatory oil will be provided free of charge by Axiom Bodyworks. As these are practical sessions, please ensure you are dressed appropriately in your salon uniform or similar professional workwear. Although comprehensive course manuals are provided, you may also wish to bring a pad and pen for making notes.
How many models do I need?
For all waxing courses, you will need to provide one model for demonstration purposes PLUS at least one practice model for every two students in attendance. We can only wax what's there on the day, so to get the best from your training we highly recommend rounding up as many willing case studies as possible!
Can you help with finding models?
You are responsible for providing your own models on the day, but we may be able to help with recruiting case studies if given enough notice. Regrettably, refunds will not be issued if models fail to attend and training is subsequently cancelled or therapists are unable to fulfil assessment requirements.
Does the face and body course cover male Brazilian waxing?
No, this is an advanced technique that is covered in a separate workshop.
Is your male Brazilian waxing course recognised by insurance providers?
Yes, public liability insurance is available from several UK providers upon presentation of your course certificate, including The Guild of Beauty Therapists and BABTAC.
Are your courses suitable for beginners?
Our courses are Continuing Professional Development programmes (CPD) and as such are only open to therapists already in possession of a recognised waxing qualification. Our face and body waxing workshop is suitable both for experienced therapists and newly qualified technicians. Due to the specialised nature of intimate hair removal, our Brazilian waxing course is designed for experienced therapists only and we recommend a minimum of two year’s industry experience before attending.
How do you work out travel costs?
Go to www.multimap.co.uk and click on the 'get directions' tab. Enter RG21 7QE as your start point and the postcode of your salon as the end point. Select 'shortest route' and then click 'find' to get the mileage. Multiply this figure by 0.80 for the total travel cost in pounds (i.e. a return journey at 40p a mile). This charge covers our travel time and expenses.
What happens if I need to cancel or postpone my course?
All requests for cancellations and changes must be confirmed in writing by letter or email. Cancelling or changing the date of a course will incur the following fees:
- More than 14 days notice: 50% of total training fee
- Less than 14 days notice: 100% of total training fee
Do you offer any other training?
Axiom Bodyworks have teamed up with Perron Rigot and Habia to deliver CPD waxing workshops across the UK. These are planned for various locations throughout 2009 and offer similar course content to our in-house training programme, but in a larger group setting. Dates and details are advertised on our Training News page and at www.learnmalewaxing.co.uk
